Discover the hidden world of glowing gemstones and minerals with these hands-on STEM discovery kits!
Each collection features five real fluorescent specimens from around the world, a long wave 365 nm UV flashlight, and an identification guide with educational activities designed to inspire curiosity about geology, chemistry, and physics.
Each kit contains one large display specimen and four additional minerals or shells packaged in a clear plastic bottle, allowing customers to build their own collection while exploring the science of fluorescence. The included guide identifies each specimen and its state or country of origin and links to additional experiments and educational resources through a QR code. Designed by an award-winning educator and astrophysicist, every collection includes links to free STEM activities and curricula aligned with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), making them ideal for science gifts, educational toys, stocking stuffers, classroom rewards, and family learning.
The Celestial Collection: Features Mangano Calcite, Petroleum Quartz, Willemite, Hackmanite, and Lapis Lazuli, selected for their vibrant fluorescent colors. Each kit includes: • One large naturally-fluorescent genuine mineral specimen (Mangano Calcite, which glows a deep pink/red under UV light) • Clear plastic bottle containing four additional naturally-fluorescent crystals: Lapis Lazuli (bright yellow flecks under UV light), Hackmanite (purple gemstone that turns orange under UV light), Willemite (vibrant green fluorescence), and Petroleum Quartz (sparks of light blue fluorescence). • Long wave 365 nm UV flashlight (replaceable coin cell battery installed and ready to use), safe for kids to use • Mineral identification guide with state or countries of origin • QR code linking to scientific information, educational resources, experiments, and NGSS-aligned STEM activities.
Each collection includes specimens guaranteed to fluoresce under the included 365 nm flashlight. Unlike lower quality rock collections including 395 nm UV flashlights, the 365 nm flashlight, with slightly higher energy than the 395 nm light, causes more specimens to fluoresce and makes the fluorescence easier to see with less purple light contamination. 365 nm UV flashlights are still long wave UV lights and safe for kids to use to view fluorescent materials.
